Frequently Asked Questions
- When do I report to school ? Students are to report to their first period class no later than 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4. Students with a first period Health & PE class should report to the gym.
- What if my parents drive me to school? Parents are asked to drop students off after 8:55 a.m. at the main entrance of the building. This will ensure the safety of all students and will avoid situations where students are not supervised by adults.
- Can I buy a student planner? The school has purchased ‘student planners’ which provide a method of improving student organization, time management, and study skills. The student planner will be distributed free of charge to each student during the first week of school. However, there is a replacement cost of $5.00 if another planner is needed during the school year.
- What if there is a class I want to change? Since the master schedule and teacher assignments have been established on the basis of student and parent choices during the spring and summer registration, schedule changes will not be made.
- Who is my counselor? Students are assigned to guidance counselors by last name. A-G – Ms. Jody Hargrove, H-N – Ms. Kristin Scott, O-Z – Ms. Kyki Razos.
- I may need additional help in my classes. How do I get this? Students with significant deficiencies in reading and math will be required to enroll in a lab/course for remediation activities. Specific programs include, but are not limited to, a SOL Lab class for English Reading and Mathematics, an Intensive Reading program, and individual school-based remediation/tutoring programs.
- I want to join sports. What do I do? See Student Activities
- How do I get a PE uniform? All students will be required to change clothes and wear a PE uniform during physical education class. The cost of a uniform is $10 and may be purchased during the first week of school in PE class. Please send a check, rather than cash.
- What kind of textbooks do I need? There is no charge for textbooks during the school year. Textbooks will be distributed at the beginning of the year and must be returned in good condition in June. Students will be responsible for lost or damaged textbooks.
- How does the school lunch program work? The cost of breakfast is $1.00 and the cost of lunch is $1.70. Students will receive a pin number, which will access the computerized point of service program that will allow individual students to have accounts for prepayment and payment at the time of service. Provisions can be made for a free or reduced lunch program by completing the application that was mailed to each home on August 1, 2005. If you qualify, the form should be returned to the Food Services department.
- Can I have a book bag? Yes you may. However, please do not purchase book bags with wheels, as they do not fit into the lockers and tend to get bumped around in the halls. If you do use a book bag, these will need to be stored in your locker as soon as you arrive to school each day.
- When will I be assigned a locker? During the first week of school a locker will be assigned to you. Your teacher will be available to assist you if you have any problems.
- When am I going to have my school picture taken? Wednesday, September 19, during P.E. classes. Pictures must be paid for in full on this date.
- Can I walk to school? Yes, if you live in the non-transportation zone.
- Can I ride a bike to school? Yes, if you live in the non-transportation zone. However, a school bike pass is required and you must wear a helmet. Applications for bike passes are available in the Student Activities Office and require a parent’s signature.
- What can I wear to school? Because September is still warm, shorts are permitted if they are at least four inches long at the inseam. Hats, bandannas, tank tops, fishnet shirts, and halter-tops are not allowed. Clothing that disrupts the educational environment is to be avoided no matter what the season. For more specific information regarding the Dress Code, the student planner can be found online at the website provided. Information will also be provided to you again during the first week of school.
- What are the school colors? The school colors are royal blue and gold.
