Pep Band

This year the middle school football season takes place September through November. The band will perform in the stands in a pep band situation for the three home football games. Our home football games are played at Kempsville High School.  Participation in the pep band is voluntary and open to all Intermediate 7th and 8th grade band members. Please remember that pep band is one of four requirements to earn a band letter. All letter requirements are listed on the chalkboard in the band room and in this newsletter.

If you join the band, your time and financial commitments are as follows:

Students must attend all scheduled rehearsals in order to participate in the pep band.

The pep band season begins with instrumental sectionals, followed by full band rehearsals. The Color Guard try-outs will be announced.  A calendar of events in September and October is on the ZONE (follow the link on the KMS homepage or type in this address http://www.thezonelive.com.

Students may ride the activity bus or be picked up before 5:30 after each rehearsal. Any students remaining at KMS at 5:30, must ride the activity bus home.

Special Equipment Needed:
All students must provide their own flip folder and lyre, which can be purchased at local music stores. Please get these early before the music stores run out! Take your instrument with you, to assure a proper fitting lyre.

UNIFORMS
Students must wear the Kempsville Middle School Pep Band uniform. A one-time fee of $25 pays for the use of the band jackets. Students will supply their own white socks and white tennis shoes for the uniform. As the weather cools off, prepare to have layers to wear under the jackets but make sure only white is showing at the collar. Any students who are removed from the marching band for disciplinary reasons or of their own personal choice will receive no refund of any fees. This fee must be accompanied by the signed field trip permission form, and will be accepted early in September. Checks should be made payable to the Kempsville Middle School Band Parents Association (KMSBPA). If you wish, you may add an additional $10 to your check, which will cover your Band Parent Association membership dues.

GAME DAYS
The Kempsville Middle School Pep Band will be playing for three "home" football games on:

TBA

Students will wear their KMS Pep Band uniform to school on game days.
Students must ride the bus to and from each game to secure instruments, music, and uniforms as well as pick up their book bags and homework. Each game lasts for approximately 1hour and 45 minutes. Please arrange for your child to be picked up from KMS approximately 2 hours from the start of each game.
