Dear Band Parents and Students,
Welcome to the new school year! I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself as the Director of Bands at Kempsville Middle School. My name is Mrs. Lisa Jackson. I was born and raised right across the bridge tunnel in Hampton, VA. I graduated from Bethel High School in 1999 and then attended James Madison University from 1999 until 2003.
As a student at JMU, I majored in Music Education and studied percussion under C. William Rice. I was a member of the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, Pep Band, Opera Theatre Orchestra, Drum Line Captain of the Marching Royal Dukes, and an officer in Sigma Alpha Iota. During my four years in the marching band we traveled to Athens, Greece to perform for their New Year celebration and hosting of the 2004 Olympics, marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, George Bush’s Inaugural Parade and Governor Warner’s Inaugural Parade.
I am now in my third year at KMS. Previously, I have taught beginning band camps for 6 years, high school drum line camp for 4 years and the Newport News Summer Institute for the Arts. I am currently performing with the Virginia Wind Symphony, Tidewater Winds and The Williamsburg Symphonia the Special Music Trio.
I am very excited to be a part of such a wonderful school and truly look forward to meeting the needs of the band program. This year I plan on continuing the Pep band, Steel Drums and Jazz Band, along with the Beginning, Intermediate and Concert Bands.
As the 2007-2008 gets under way I am excited to meet and learn about each of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at Lisa.Jackson@vbschools.com
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lisa M. Jackson
