Breaking News and

Dates to Remember

Welcome students and parents to the new Computer Exploration! Hard to believe the summer is gone already. The first three weeks sure went by quickly.

This is a year of major change; everything in the computer lab will be quite different this year. Check out all the exciting things below:

  1. New courses. The Computer Exploration curriculum has completely changes. New courses (described below) are Computer Solutions 1 (taught to 6th and 7th graders every quarter this year), Computer Solutions 2 (taught to one 7th grade class 4th quarter), and Advanced Computer Solutions (taught to one 8th grade class 2nd Semester). Keyboarding, taught for the first time last year to one 8th grade class, will be taught to a total of five 7th and 8th grade classes.
  2. NEW COMPUTERS ARE HERE! New HP computers were delivered and are up and running. There are a few software glitches to work out but they are a very nice change!
  3. Sharepoint: Because of the change to SharePoint, the web site will be closed in the near future and all major details, assignments and announcements will be made using the individual class sites.
  4. Progress Reports were issued to all students on Monday the 9th. It is a homework grade for ALL students to get their computer progress report signed and returned to class for their grade. To date, too many students have NOT returned their report. A second progress report, a much more realistic one, will be issued to all Computer Solutions 1 students on Monday, October 23. This will also require parent signature and return to class for a grade.

Keyboarding Grade 7 & 8

Keyboarding will be offered as a one semester, high school half-credit class. During the first quarter, students will mainly acquire skills in developing touch-keyboarding techniques and become proficient computer users. During the second quarter, the student will mainly learn word processing applications. Students will review standard grammar usage and develop proofreading and editing techniques and skills. This will give the students the ability to correctly compose, organize, and edit a wide variety of word processing documents at the keyboard.
